Music of the day: Final Fantasy X Remaster
After months if ot years of waiting, I finally have it thanks to my beloved brother who had begged his video game sellor to pre buy the limited edition for me!
The video game who led me to Final fantasy universe. The video game who led me back to video games, short! Final fantasy x and x-2 remaster!!
10 years ago I had discovered FFX-2 thanks to an ad on TV: you known the scene where Yuna jumps in the air shotting like crazy. I immediately was curious about this game and bought it. It’s only after that I discovered the prequel, FFX and its much more serious universe.
I didn’t hesitate one second when I heard about the remaster: I had to have it.
And I’m not deceived , so far!
The package is pretty, the cover features Yuna and Tidus in a position inspired by the scene in Macalenia Woods. A little artbook is included in the box: its mistly dedicated to FFX. The part about FFX-2 is mostly dedicated to the lands designs, monsters, not about the characters. The pictures are very beautiful with lots of details about the original concepts but I was a bit deceived because I expected to find all character designs. Still it’s a very beautiful book.
I haven’t played the game yet (I’ve been ill the last 3 days T__T) so I can not describe the game itself but I will do it soon, promised!
Now about the music!
I will focus today on the FFX game. FFX-2 will be for a next post!
The music is awesome: I may be a little nostalgic of the original sountrack but the remastered version has good surprises.
1. Total reussite
To Zanarkand is much more nostalgic, sad, full of emotions. Human.
Same can be said about People of the North Pole, where the loneliness of these moutains creatures is much more underlined. One of my favorite songs ten years ago, one of my favorite today.
My other favorites of the day are:
Suteki Da ne
I doubted that making a remaster of this beautiful song was a good idea. I was wrong. This version is very good!
The guitar is much more clear at the beginning and Rikki’s voice is softer, The violons are a bit different, the original version was a bit sadder but the remaster is a good surprise. Rikki’s voice has aged, but this song still has its impact: now, 10 years after having left Spira, you still feel the torn story of those heroes: the nostalgy is fully present, even more in today’s version. This song is a like a flower whose petals are taken away by the wind: precious, delicate and sad.
At first, I wanted to put this song in the “not that bad section” but hearing the remaster section till the end made me cry so I add it here. The ending theme, the majestic, tragic ending theme of Final Fantasy X still bring tears, even more with this piano who even more tears your heart (best part at 1min40 T____T).
2. Not that bad
It was one of my favorite in the original game: Farplane Sending.
The new version has not changed a lot except the instruments clarity; the drums can be heard more clearly.
3. So-so
Still, some of the remastered songs were as good if not better in the original version:
Otherworld: I prefer the ancient version because the remastered one is not as clear and raw.
Auron’s theme: one of my favorite songs of the original ost. The religious past of the character is underlined in the remastered version with the synthetic piano effects and the choirs but I feel like they could have improved the electro sounds, too similar to the original one.
I haven’t compared all the soundtrack yet. It’s always a surprise when you hear a music you have listended for hours 10 years ago and find it in a slightly different version today. Some may yell “why did they touch it, noooo”. I honestly shared this opinion because I thought they would change all the soundtrack. But the fact is that they only improve some parts linked to technical settings: you can hear the instruments more clearly, some songs have been slightly modified (violon solos, etc) bit FFX soundtrack is still the same. Now, let’s go to Spira!
