The fabric search!
Tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I’ve been wandering for weeks through fabrics shops to find the perfect fabric for my cosplay projets , with no luck in sight until last week.
Here are the keywords I used for this search mission
– heavy opaque fabric (no less than 150g/meter)
– an elegant shining (not ultra shiny like sateen nor matte)
– easy to use fabric (not slippery like basic sateen)
– a reliable seller
The last keyword was , without surprise “CHEAP” as in “no more than 7 euros by meter”.
I usually use taffetas for my dresses projects, like in my Madame Red cosplay: it’s a soft, easy to use fabric, with a elegant discreet shining. This time, I wanted a heavier fabric, totally opaque.
I wanted to use the same fabric I had for my Esther Blanchett project but the fabric shop I bought it to stopped selling it ages ago. After many tests and trials, I found a fabric very similar to it: it’s “duchesse sateen”. Duchesse sateen is a soft fabric with a discreet shine and less slippery than normal sateen.
I was impatient to order my fabric. The colors I wanted seemed fairly simple but were all but easy to find.
Clalaclan and Sia’s outfit are mostly white and cream white. Clalaclan also has blue ( already bought years ago) while Sia has deep purple. I thought white would be easier to find but I guessed wrong.
All my usual shops were out of white and purple fabric; I had to wait till january to find them. I bought the fabrics online at tissus-price.com
Three days later; the package was at home!
It was packed with care. The fabric was neatly cut and pleated. The colors was exactly the one shown on the site. I also liked the secured weblink to track the parcel. The price was very reasonnable for such a good fabric: less than 5 euros/meter.
Here are some pics of the fabrics!
I took the pics in the evening so the colors are a bit off. The purple is darker and the fabrics are whiter. I also ordered this package of ten 1 meter elastic ribbon. I got 10 meters of ribbons for 1 euro!
I will soon start the pattern making. I’m impatient to work on those projects!
